Waves of Light

A striking work of contemporary maki-e art, Waves of Light captures the living rhythm of water through color, reflection, and form. The vertical waves rise and shimmer, their motion held within the luminous depth of urushi lacquer.

Fragments of blue, green, pink, and silver-lipped pearl oyster shell are inlaid with meticulous care, then layered beneath colored urushi and burnished to reveal a spectrum that shifts with every angle. The surface glows like light caught in motion — a harmony of precision and poetry. The nib section flows into a gradation of gold powder, polished to brilliance, as though the waves themselves melt into gold at the point of creation.
