The aptly named Clown Fish, is one of the most colorful and active fish that has found an ingenious way to survive and thrive among the tentacles of the sea anemone. It has formed a unique symbiotic relationship with the anemone. The tiny Clown Fish relentlessly loops around the waving tentacles of the anemone, immune to its stings because of its protective skin coating; while the latter attacks other fish which it consumes, leaving the leftovers for the Clown Fish. In this way, the Clown Fish is protected from other sea predators and also offered an assured supply of food. Another curious fact about Clown Fish is its ability to change sex and perform its special role in maintaining the ecology of the coral reefs where it abounds. The interest and curiosity related to this fish manifested in securing it the lead role of ‘Nemo’ in the Academy award winning animated movie “Finding Nemo”, produced by Pixar Animation Studios.
Another strange and beautiful fish traversing the exotic coral reefs is the Parrot Fish. It gets its name from the curiously shaped jaw bone with fused teeth giving it a parrot beak like appearance. This strong jaw helps it furiously feed on algae that would rapidly spread and invade the coral reefs and otherwise destroy the ecological system. Like the Clown Fish, the Parrot Fish is also able to change its gender. It also has the ability to change color and size many times during the course of its life!
