The Supreme Durga

AP Limited Editions celebrates the divine feminine principle in a splendid tribute to Goddess Durga, the supreme form of power and protection. Durga is the principal form of the divine feminine energy in the Hindu pantheon. Legend states that She was born from the collective energies of the Hindu trinity; Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva to vanquish a demon Mahishasura who was ravaging the Cosmos. Goddess Durga is the personification of power or supreme energy (Shakti) and is often depicted riding a Lion and bearing weapons in her eight arms. Crafted in the full spectrum and highest levels of Maki-e Art, namely Shishiai Togidashi Maki-e with generous use of Mother of Pearl and other Aogai; this outstanding fine writing instrument boasts a very unusual color palette and exceptional skill of the Maki-e Shi.

The background is created with Togidashimaki-e, while other parts predominantly with Takamki-e (a combination of Takamaki-e, Shishiaimaki-e, and Tsukegaki*). The three-dimensional aspect featured here is unparalleled. *Tsukegaki: A technique to create a raised design using only lacquer and gold powder. A lot of gold powder is used for this technique because it sinks into the lacquer.
