The Blooming Vanda Miss Joaquim

AP Limited Editions commemorates the fifty-year celebration of the dynamic country of Singapore in a new Maki-e pen dedicated to this amazing island nation as it celebrates fifty glorious years of independence. Vanda Miss Joaquim, was proclaimed the National Flower of Singapore in 1981 and represents many of the unique qualities inherent in the spirit of this magnificent nation. This oldest indigenous hybrid species of the Orchid family was named in memory of Miss Agnes Joaquim, an experienced horticulturist, when she first discovered the Vanda Orchid in her garden in 1893. Chosen for its perennial blooms and resilience, this unique and hardy hybrid that blooms year-round, reflects many of the attributes of the Singaporean people who have worked hard to build this small island nation into a robust, resilient, stable and strong Asian economy.
